Honey and Mallets to come

This page was originally written when many seasoned veterans of the game were getting into honey without wanting to spend money.  Things are different if you are a new player progressing through the game.

"I am going to add that honey is way out of balance for the game and the implementation is horrible. You will never keep you head above the honey water, so don't get frustrated. Pour all or your honey into purple fish to get more mallets. Once all you orchards are up to level 7, you will get to a point that you can keep the hive running around the clock, but you will still never be able to fill all the orders."

I will rewrite this article in the near future.

*********************************************************************************************

At level 67, you get to enter the wonderful world of [tree] honey.  It is a powerful product that you can:

  • use in the market to boost your cash sales ($$$), materials and tournament points

  • tend to your cafe customers faster (mallets and cash), freeing up meadow and factory to make citrus oil for sushi (mallets)

  • make glazed fish (mallets).

Basically,

Mallets = honey = more mallets = more honey = more mallets...

Honey is made from nectar in the beehive.  At level 68 you can upgrade fields to level 8 and start collecting flower nectar. A few level 8 fields will give you enough nectar during your regular farming.  I will dig deeper into the numbers at a later date.  Because of the importance of tree honey, I run tree honey all day and field honey overnight (takes longer).  It takes some time to get the process started and requires some fishing and patience.

The most common question is what orchard should I upgrade?  That is very difficult to answer because it depends on your farming habits and the best upgrade for nectar production depends on how often you run each orchard every day (idle time needs to be factored in.)

There are multiple ways to evaluate the best order to do upgrades.  One way is the most nectar increase per upgrade, but it requires lots of mallets.  Another way is which products you are short on.  Yet another way is the most nectar increase per mallet invested.  Often the best answer is a blend of all 3 options and depends the most on nectar increase per mallet invested.   If you are looking at 2 options that are very close, it may be wise to do the one that gives you more nectar first, but generally this will require more mallets.

So you are thinking "that is great...  but how do I figure that stuff out?"  Well, I built this handy calculator below to show you which orchards give you the best return on your investment based on your farming habits.  (This is why I love having a website.)  The chart is fairly easy to use:

  • First, move the sliders to set how often you run each orchard per day.  I included fractions of numbers because you may run your cherries 2 times per day during co-op tournament and only once per day during individual tournament, so you would pick 1.5 times per day.

  • Second, pick the sort option you would like.  It is defaulted to list the best upgrades per mallet spent.

  • Third, upgrade the highest orchard on the list that you can. If you are just starting, Peaches level 7 won't be an option, so just skip over it till it becomes one.

I included the 2 beehive upgrades because they reduce the nectar needed, in a way acting like an increase.  It assumes you can keep it running with enough nectar.  I tied it's number of runs per day to how often you run your apples.  If you run them a lot, then I'm guessing you keep your beehive running a lot and vise versa.

The first column is the name of the orchard.

The second column is the increased amount of nectar the upgrade will give you in a day.  This will give you the most nectar per day.

The third is the amount of honey per mallet invested that the upgrade will give you.  This give you the most nectar per mallet invested.

If you can do the cafe and make sushi (for mallets), it may be wise to hold of building the beehive until you have a stockpile of nectar and some orchards producing nectar.  The beehive takes 10 workers, and that is a lot of workers doing nothing if the building sits idle for 20 hrs per day.  Just dump the honey contracts for now; some will be really painful to dump, but your farm will be better off in the long run.

From here down, everything changes based on your farming habits.

And if you don't like charts and numbers, just set how often you run each orchard and I'll tell you to upgrade in this order :

How many times per day do you run:

Apples

Cherries

Almonds

Peaches

You may have a farming addiction.  I'm sure your co-op loves you and you are kicking butt in the tournament.
