Gold is a hot topic in our community. This blog is about how to obtain gold wisely, both free and paid packages.
Before I start, this is NOT a gold spending player bashing community. I firmly believe that everyone has the right to make their own personal choices about how they spend their entertainment dollars, and that it is human nature to judge others that do not line up with our own beliefs. You are not alone in these struggles, but we can choose to respect other's choices even if we don't agree. Yes, it is very frustrating to play against them.
Games need funding for development. If this is your form of entertainment, I would encourage you to support the developers. (A very valid personal goal is to excel in this game without spending anything.)
I also encourage you to invest in things that you can't earn in the game through hard work, like fertile fields, fancy houses and external barn.
You can read more about the gold trap that this game sets up here.
"Free" Gold
You get 100 gold each time you level up. You have a 1 in 77 chance of getting Gold Flowers when you give the dog a bone. You get a free dog bone every day, you can earn extra as theme rewards or weekend collecting event rewards, you can buy dog bones with loyalty points or make dog bones in the Fishing cafe. You just have to be careful making dog bone recipes because they can cut into feeding your livestock.
A regular field gives you 200 gold from Gold Flowers, but you can use loyalty points to get premium humus for 300 gold total. A fertile field gives you 300 gold and you can premium humus to 450 total. I you have 3 Gold Flower seeds you will get an extra 450 gold from a fertile field. A fertile field cost 350 gold and you get nothing back when you bulldoze it. So for 3 crops, you are 100 gold ahead building a fertile field, running the gold flowers and then bulldozing the field. Do this with 10 bags and buy the field during a 50% off sale and it is an extra 1325 gold. Perfect timing would be to expand during a 50% of super sale, build a fertile field, run your gold flowers... ;)
There are also options like Google Opinion Rewards for Android and QuickThoughts for Apple. You can set up an account, do surveys and then use the rewards to purchase game packages.
There are also some tournament rewards that will allow you to purchase extra gold (above) or coop funds (right). Don't forget to check them out. Every so often there is an Extra bonus! promotion where you get coupons and extra rewards when buying packages (below). It alternates 500 and 1000 bonus gold. Wait for 1000. ;)
Buying Packages
Lets look at buying wisely. BF keeps putting on 100% and 200% on the base packages. Or 20% on base packages through the subscription. THESE ARE BAD DEALS (Sorry BF, I had to say it)
$5 on this offer with a 100% bonus will get me 4,500 or 5,400 gold, depending on having a subscription. $5 on a super sale (the pigs and goat with the purse) gets your 14,000 gold.
Options for $5:
Base offer = 2,250 gold
Base offer with subscription = 2,700 gold
Base offer with 200% sale and subscription = 8,100 gold
Double Gold Offer = 6,750 gold, $50,000, and some other goodies
Triple Gold Flash Sale = 10,750 gold, $120,000 and some other goodies
Gold Offer (Super Sale) = 14,000 gold, $50,000 and some other goodies
Gold Offer (Super Sale) bought during the Extra bonus promotion = 15,000 gold, $50,000 and some other goodies.
I know which one I would buy.
All of the offers roughly scale up, so $20 and $100 packages will be the same principle.
The $20 base package with 100% and subscription will get you 26,400 gold. The super sale is 74,000 gold, $250,000 and some other goodies.
'Growing gold' is the best deal in the game (200,000 gold), but you can only buy it once and you collect gold every 10 levels till level 100. Coupled with the tournament rewards, you can get 4 fertile fields to level 8 (on sale), external barn to 13, two frying pans and a +99 decoration to boot.
A neat little side note... Goodgame released Big Farm New Harvest, the online version of the mobile game that we play and love. It is missing the cafe, fishing, adventure farm and village donations and I have been asked to not recommend it as an alternative yet. So, keep it as a back up tool for when your phone dies or your emulator refuses to emulate. Cough... packages bought online have a web offer 30% base gold increase... extra 750 gold on that $5 super sale.
Well dang it, I ain't got me a computer. We tried requesting the desktop version of the website to log into on a phone, and the screen was too large and doesn't scroll , so we couldn't get to the offers button. :(
Some notes
- If you have the subscription and buy a base package during a bonus sale (100%, 200%, etc), the bonus 20% gold does not appear on credit screen the appears in the game. It is a known glitch, but the proper amount is credited to your account. However, friends don't let friends buy base packages. ;)
- If you buy a package, the next time around, higher value packages are offered. First time will be $5 and $10 packages; after you buy, they will offer $10 and $20 packages, then $20 and $30. After 2 - 3 weeks, the package will go down again.
- When I first published this (Aug 15, 2019) on Farmers Fan Page, Big Farm took the Super Sale offer away... but it came back Sept 16, 2019. If you think about it from a marketing perspective, they took away the offer and then introduced the fertile apple and cherry. I wonder if sales have slowed down and this offer coming back is to encourage farmers to keep upgrading their new orchards.
Full disclosure - I have bought the Growing Gold package ($20) and my wife bought me one for Christmas. The one she got me was invested into the largest impact on the game and is a subject for another day.
Please report what u got for Christmas :)
